As Given consists of three collages made from photograms and is conceived as a complementary work to To Be Otherwise. The series explores the relationship between visibility, perception, and categorization.
The works are based on three electromagnetic sculptures in the form of reclining human figures, created from steel wire and modeled after my own body. In the darkroom, photographic paper is placed directly onto the sculptures. After activating the electromagnets, iron powder is scattered across the surface and aligns itself along the magnetic field lines. The resulting traces are then exposed as photograms. The individual photograms are assembled into large-scale collages.
Through the direct contact between the sculptures and the photographic paper, the lines and structures of the figures become immediately visible. The work examines how visibility can become a basis for perception, legibility, and the formation of assigned meanings.
