To Be Otherwise explores the desire for a form of existence that resists being clearly defined or easily interpreted.

The series consists of photograms created with the help of three electromagnetic sculptures based on my own body. The magnet functions as a metaphor for processes of attraction and attachment: just as magnets draw certain materials toward themselves, human beings are also shaped by external influences, expectations, and assigned identities.

To create the photograms, one of the sculptures is placed on the floor in the darkroom and covered with a sheet of photographic paper. The electromagnets are then activated, and iron powder is scattered across the paper. The particles align themselves along the magnetic field lines. After exposure, the resulting photograms reveal the otherwise invisible electromagnetic field.

Through the distance between the sculpture and the photographic paper, the concrete form dissolves. What remains is an abstract trace of an invisible field — a state between visibility and invisibility.
